No Place to be Somebody is a 1969 play written by American playwright Charles Gordone.[1][2][3]
It was during his employment as a bartender in Greenwich Village that Gordone found the inspiration for his first major work, No Place to be Somebody, for which he received the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Gordone's Pulitzer signified two "firsts": he was the first African American playwright to receive a Pulitzer, and "No Place to be Somebody" was the first off-Broadway play to receive the award.[4]
Written over the course of seven years, the play explores racial tensions in a Civil Rights-era story about a black bartender who tries to outsmart a white mobster syndicate. In his final speech, in June 1995, delivered at the Museum of the American West in Los Angeles, Gordone described the play as being "about country folk who had migrated to the big city, seeking the urban myth of success, only to find disappointment, despair, and death."

Evolution Of The Revolution with Crushow Herring

Evolution Of The Revolution with Crushow Herring
Evolution of the Revolution is an immersive, multi-media installation created by Surreal Box Cinema, an artistic collaboration formed by Lynn Rossi (photographer/set designer) and Nichelle Evans (set designer/conceptual artist). Evolution of the Revolution presents a surreal photographic journey that explores the African American revolutionary path, from the Trans-Atlantic Middle Passage to the present day political arena, including pivotal moments such as the Underground Railroad and the Civil Rights Movement.

The bright, large scale photographs featured in Evolution of the Revolution do more than pay tribute to the men and women who triumphed over slavery and struggle to gain equal rights: they also provide a poignant commentary on how the revolution reverberates through contemporary culture and events. To create these layers of meaning, the artists constructed elaborate staged sets that feature models posing with a variety of props designed to provide a sharp historical insight.

In addition to the photographs, the exhibition displays several of the props used in the photos and a life size bus of retro style that celebrates the bravery of Rosa Parks and features the journey of other courageous African American civil rights leaders as the original riders for justice and freedom.

Inspired by photographs of his grandpa in zoot suits, a true fashionista was formed! Day went to school with Prince Rogers Nelson and sang in Prince's first band Grand Central. Prince grew as an artist and so did the opportunity around him. The Time was originally created as Prince's alter-ego to be seen as the cool, street-wise funk band contrasting Prince's more soulful R&B sound.

Morris Day burst onto the public scene with the group's self-titled album, The Time, which included "Get It Up," "Cool," and "Girl." Soon after the world was introduced the prolific Minneapolis music marvel, the group went on to record three more albums, including What Time Is It? (featuring the hits "777-9311," "Wild and Loose," "Walk," and "Gigolos Get Lonely Too") and Ice Cream Castle, (which included the hit "Jungle Love"). After three albums Morris Day launched his solo career, releasing three albums: The Color of Success, Daydreaming, and Guaranteed. Combined sales of Morris Day's solo work and The Time is in excess of 10 million units

The time couldn't be any better for It's About Time.

Homeless unarmed man was murdered in broad daylight in front of hundreds of other homeless people in front of other homeless people in front of the Union Rescue Mission last week, The brother was from Cameroon and was know on skid row as Africa was shot by three officers Sunday after Police said he grabbed an officers gun during the struggle while four officers held him down on the ground on his back. The shooting was captured on video please take a look. The shooting was captured on video by bystanders and sparked protest on every level.

Homeless Lives Matter Too

Lost His Life Here

Anthony Backburn, the bystander who shot the video, said he started filming with his cell phone after several officers surrounded a homeless man in front of his tent. I had y phone out you know videotaping the whole thing cause we've been hearing on the news about police brutality,  Blackburn told CNN. I just wanted to film it and just make sure everything was alright. But I ended up seeing a tragedy. I don't know what they found on him but there was no firearm!

Los Angeles police Commander Andrew Smith said the man was suspected of robbery. When officers tried to arrest him, he started fighting with them.

In news now is a article saying the man had immigration problems and I suppose that is justification to kill him robbing him of life; however as I understand it there about one million Immigrants currently living in California, should we all start shooting them????

Homeless Lives Matter Too

This is the second police involvement take down of a homeless man in the same week

where they  say he grabbed one of the officer's holsters. They used a "contact" Taser on him two or three times. He was finally subdued and taken into custody.

Just another day in skid row

We must wonder how many white people do the LAPD jump on and tackle down for questioning??

Images of America- COMPTON by Robert Lee Johnson

Book Description:
Compton is a city of myth and misunderstandings. Today, it is known as the city of “hip-hop dreams and gangsta fantasies.” Its history, however, is not as well known. Author Robert Lee Johnson reminds us of a glorious history from 1867 to the 1970’s.
